It’s been three months since I have posted anything in this blog! This blog I once poured my heart and brains into! I even made that header.  To be honest, as much as I love it,  it’s the reason I’ m have entered into scandalous territories of neglect. The fact that Fish Food shows up over the header in big red text really irks me. I am ashamed of it.

I would like some help with that, thanks!

Aside from that, I’m still EATING and I’m still eating VEGAN and now I have come to terms with my WHEAT INTOLERANCE. Now I love life even more because of all the painless tummy times I’ve been having! What joy. Seriously. A torso that feels like a hard, inflated bruise is not a good time.

SO!

I should be here! And I should be at XGFX, too! And in the garden growing as much as my knowledge and luck will let me!

Mexican Style Salsa Potatoes

Oh I wish I could remember what I put in this outstanding  potato dish. Sigh!

Quesadilla!

Touch me all over, you sultry quesadilla. I could have you every day. Onions, green pepper, mushrooms mixed with cheddar and mozza Daiya… yes please!

Fiery Falafel Scramble

One morning when I was out of my usual scramble ingredients I had this genius idea to use FALAFEL MIX! It was ah-maze-ing! I added some chili flakes and kept the colors fiery with red pepper, corn, and carrots!

For the “meat” on the inside I used The Ordinary Vegetarian’s “Super Veggie Lentil Taco Meat” recipe mixed with some cheddar Daiya! I baked these babies to retain their healthfulness. Here’s a picture before they entered my heat chamber:

Siamese Twin Velvet Pancakes

I know this isn’t a super sexy picture of vegan pancakes but I hope you can appreciate their Siamese twin nature. Plus, these pancakes were velvet to the touch. So lush.

I can stroke one off my Future Dishes (stroke one off, hehe) because I made…

Yeah, that’s maple cream cheese sauce on top with maple roasted shelled flax. I don’t lie, friends.

The recipe made 14 pancakes! I still have four at work in the freezer just begging to be toasted up. Next time I will most definitely be adding a drip of molasses to that recipe as well as some chopped pecans!

The noodle binge continues with a Chinese Style Teriyaki Noodle dish with broccoli and carrots. Friggin’ yum.

Oh, and in case you were wondering about a hot inside shot of that birthday cake… Here she is!

And lastly, some sweet sweet Daiya action for y’all. Discounted baguette with some homemade pizza sauce, onions, green pepper, mushroom, and Daiya. I wish baguette agreed with me. Seems it puts up quite a battle in my stomach. Sadness.

One: The Good Food Emporium‘s Tofu Sandwich

Why I love this sandwich: the positively magical, mysterious and unmockable mixture of tasty tofu that is so generously slathered throughout the center  and even the mayo is vegan on this puppy.

Two: I went to The Carleton to see Laura Peek and Mike Evin perform their poppy piano melodies. I never seem to smap a picture of the delicious frites they have there because I eat them so fast, but here is the Spinach Salad with Ginger Soy dressing, mangos, onions, peppers, and toasted pecans.

BONUS: Off to my friend Fitzi’s (also not the same day!) for a girls night of drinking and debauchery. I took some Daiya with me and we made NACHOOOOZZZ.

H’ooooo m’lanta.

The recipe I used was Tara’s Chocolate Cake from Sarah Kramer’s “La Dolce Vegan!” It was given many thumbs up and rants at the Birthday Potluck!

Also I recently broke out my Tu-No Casserole for a potluck. Huuuuge hit! Such great wintertime comfort food. It’s a recipe I know I’ll be making regularly for the rest of my life. Takes me straight back to the ol’ childhood.

This is her, nude, without her soda cracker crumbles. It’s really the best way to understand her depth and enjoy what she has to offer if you can’t really be with her.

Naked Tu-NO Casserole

One more potluck treasure from this month: Ginger Crinkle Cookies !!! Tried and true, this recipe is above and beyond any other ginger cookie I have ever had OR tried. It’s crinkly and crunch on the outisde and moist, chewy, and spicy on the inside.

This time I rolled them in orange and pink decorators sugar. Sexy!

So you understand their intensity.

I’ve been really into mac ‘n cheeze due to the winter weather, short days, and the simple fact that it is deeeeerichious!

Mid month I got together with a friend who is living in San Francisco right now, just home visiting on a work trip. We went to Morris East for some tasty wood fired pizza. Always a pleasure.

Then my friend Molly and I exchanged vegan boxes for the holidays. Chocolate Caramel popcorn, Mac-n-chip cookie, chocolate bars, gummi bunnies, and ginger mints! Check-check-check it out!!!

Over the Holidays I found myself indulging in something dirty dirty dirty. Mr.Noodles.

When I realized what I did to myself I vowed to find a way to make hot, spicy, brothy noodles at home!

When I re-read what Meghan Telphner has to say about MSG, and all the other names MSG can be labelled as, it reignited my fuel for the fire! No more MSG for me.

So, this is what I make:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Shimmer me timbers, baby! These noodles look fiiine.

Broth time!

Small pot – Med-High

2C H2O

1 T Braggs

1/2 tsp Sriracha

1/2 tsp Lemongrass Paste

1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger

1 T sugar

Once that gets to the boiling point take a small dish and mix 1T cornstarch and 2T water, mix this well until there are no clumps.

Pour into the broth mixture and stir in quickly. This will thicken it a tiny bit.

Meanwhile, you should have been cooking your skinny rice noodles or whatever tickles your fancy.

This is enough broth to pour over 2-3 bowls of noodles,depending on how brothy you like your noodz.

This is my fall-back scramble. Onions, green pepper, carrots, and mushrooms. Standard spicing: Braggs, nooch, basil, tumeric, and garlic. You really can’t go wrong with it. If Boy George has taught me anything, it’s how to make a good scramble. This time around I left everything a little bigger than my normal dice’r up attitude demands. I think I was onto something because, hot damn! this scramble was perfect.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I do miss the tasty sweet and sour flavour of a good Canadian Chinese Sweet & Sour Chicken Ball.

Yeah, I know…  vegan blog, bla bla bla. You know what I’m talking about. Don’t pretend like you don’t.

Now, it’s not every city you come across the opportunity to dine at an ALL VEGAN CHINESE FOOD RESTAURANT. Nope, not even close. This, among many, is one of the reasons I decided to visit San Francisco. This is beyond not-my-street-eats, this is one of the greatest vegan meccas of North America.

Tofu Salad

Tofu Salad doesn’t even begin to describe what’s in this solid gold rock of a food jem. I’ve never had a salad like this be so scrumptious and I doubt I ever will unless I eat here again. Which is clearly on my bucket list. Perhaps the 50 before 50 list?

More tasty deep fried treasures. I bet you’re starting to think “Daaaayum, this girl is a total binge eating maniac!” However, I was not alone. I had three others to share these appetizers with.

Seems I have started what’s called The Scramble Diaries. I make a lot of scramble. It’s always different. I feel it deserves it’s own special focus.

Yesterday I didn’t have any carrots or mushrooms (gasp!) so I improvised with

corn and dill!

Roasted Red Pepper Scramble with Corn and Dill

What a babe! Look close, do you see those slivers of dill? This scramble was SO good it didn’t need katsup, salt, or hot sauce! Can you even imagine that? I never thought I would see the day. I wasn’t even looking forward to that day, but let me tell you I will gladly have it roll around again.

See this jerky below? Well I thought “Hey! Maybe it’s as good as Primal Strips!” Nope. It has the quirkiest texture and not in a good way. Plus, it smells like canned chickpeas. Now we all know that canned chickpeas happen to smell like CAT FOOD so let’s connect the dots.

Stonewalls Jerquee!

Loki, the mancat of the house where I stayed in SF, l-o-v-e-d t-h-i-s s-h-i-t. Perhaps that may be the understatement of last year because this cat danced for Stonewall’s Jerquee. Never have his owners known Loki to be a dancer. Never, ever.

Upon returning home I left the brown paper bag unattended in the dining room only to quickly discover that Loki had torn into it and started to mow down on the chicken flavoured Jerquee! Holy bananas! It didn’t matter where I put this stuff, he would sniff it out. Oh, and he would dance. That cat is a natural. Eventually the Jerquee went in a bag, in a cookie jar, on top of a hutch. Even then, Loki tried to obtain said goods.

REALLY? Yeah, really. They went there. A wide selection of pre-made seitan sammys! Just touch me all over, whydoncha?

At the counter they have vegan cookies galore!

My my my. How could any vegan in their right mind come out of there without feeling wild with excitement? I might as well have found a freaking shipwreck off the coast!

The Cha-ya Roll

This tasty treasure is tempura sushi filled with avocado, yam, and carrots. The entire roll is lightly battered and deep-fried and served with a special house sauce!

Quite possibly the best sushi I have ever had.

Tofu-Veggie Curry Bowl

Hot and spicy noodle soup, just the way I like it. Curry soup topped with tofu, kabocha, pearl onions, celery, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms, and sugar snap peas. POWPOW.

Atsuage Tofu

Fried and firm. Fabulous. It also doesn’t hurt that this Nigiri Sushi is absolutely adorable.

If I lived in San Francisco I would eat here way way way too much. I would need to try everything on the menu.
