Triple Threat

This month I’ve had the pleasure of two of my favourite small meals in Halifax.

One: The Good Food Emporium‘s Tofu Sandwich

Why I love this sandwich: the positively magical, mysterious and unmockable mixture of tasty tofu that is so generously slathered throughout the center  and even the mayo is vegan on this puppy.

Two: I went to The Carleton to see Laura Peek and Mike Evin perform their poppy piano melodies. I never seem to smap a picture of the delicious frites they have there because I eat them so fast, but here is the Spinach Salad with Ginger Soy dressing, mangos, onions, peppers, and toasted pecans.

Ginger Soy Dressing! Onions! Mango! Red Pepper! TOASTED PECANS.

BONUS: Off to my friend Fitzi’s (also not the same day!) for a girls night of drinking and debauchery. I took some Daiya with me and we made NACHOOOOZZZ.

This month has been delightful food wise. Earlier I ordered 10lbs of Daiya from Karmavore! That makes everything allllright.

I’ve been really into mac ‘n cheeze due to the winter weather, short days, and the simple fact that it is deeeeerichious!

Mac ‘n Daiya!

Mid month I got together with a friend who is living in San Francisco right now, just home visiting on a work trip. We went to Morris East for some tasty wood fired pizza. Always a pleasure.

Then my friend Molly and I exchanged vegan boxes for the holidays. Chocolate Caramel popcorn, Mac-n-chip cookie, chocolate bars, gummi bunnies, and ginger mints! Check-check-check it out!!!

SWEET TREATS

Over the Holidays I found myself indulging in something dirty dirty dirty. Mr.Noodles.

When I realized what I did to myself I vowed to find a way to make hot, spicy, brothy noodles at home!

When I re-read what Meghan Telphner has to say about MSG, and all the other names MSG can be labelled as, it reignited my fuel for the fire! No more MSG for me.

So, this is what I make:

Hot Noodz, you got what I want.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Shimmer me timbers, baby! These noodles look fiiine.

Broth time!

Small pot – Med-High

2C H2O

1 T Braggs

1/2 tsp Sriracha

1/2 tsp Lemongrass Paste

1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger

1 T sugar

 

Once that gets to the boiling point take a small dish and mix 1T cornstarch and 2T water, mix this well until there are no clumps.

Pour into the broth mixture and stir in quickly. This will thicken it a tiny bit.

Meanwhile, you should have been cooking your skinny rice noodles or whatever tickles your fancy.

This is enough broth to pour over 2-3 bowls of noodles,depending on how brothy you like your noodz.

The Scramble Diaries;; pt. 2

Basic, yet bold.

This is my fall-back scramble. Onions, green pepper, carrots, and mushrooms. Standard spicing: Braggs, nooch, basil, tumeric, and garlic. You really can’t go wrong with it. If Boy George has taught me anything, it’s how to make a good scramble. This time around I left everything a little bigger than my normal dice’r up attitude demands. I think I was onto something because, hot damn! this scramble was perfect.

Ahh yes, January’s backlog of tasty treasures created in the newly expanded (I pushed the fridge all the way back to the wall) kitchen of 2061. 

My computer just died this week so posts will really be sporadic. Unless someone out there has the urge to merge with my dead Ubuntu laptop and find the magic potion to bring it back to life. Any takers?

Anyways, onto the porn.

Soyburger Helper

 

Mmm… spiral noodz, a package of mexican soy ground round, a can of sweet corn, a few tomatoes and a tonnnne of sauteed onions and mushrooms. Frig. 

OH YEAH. I also mixed in a bunch of cheddar DAIYA for cheezy, stringy, ooey-gooey-goodness.

 

So hot she’s steaming.

Damn, girl. Ya look good. 

 

 

Chocolate Mint Brownies

 

So, I was in a rush one morning and I reallllly wanted brownies. I wanted them so badly I did not wait until they cooled to pour on the chocolate mint icing. In doing this I learned how to make dense brownie fudge. The heat of the brownies re-liquified the icing and it seeped throughout the brownies and upon cooling I was perplexed as to why my brownies were not the moist delights I was expecting. Chantelle explained to to me and then the forks came out and this is what happened. Three of us attacked it and attack it we did !

 I toasted my own coconut and re-created the Janes On The Commons  Exotic  Madras Curry! Thanks for posting your ingredients on your to-go boxes. Muhuhaha.

Roasted Herbed Veggies over Jasmine Rice

 

I have a new obsession. It’s roasted root vegetables. ROAST MY HEART. Well, no, don’t. Roast every root vegetable you get your paws on. My heart is not a root vegetable.

These vegetables were done with sage, thyme, rosemary, summer savory, olive oil, salt, and maple syrup. As far as I am concerned it is pointless to live, let alone roast RV’s without MS.

That’s how many pounds of Daiya were shipped from Karmavore to ME.

Ten pounds of Cheddar

Five pounds of Italian.

I split it up in baggies with 6 cups in each of them. My amazing veggie boss and lactose intolerant Curling superstar co-worker and I went in on this masstown Daiya purchase.  The little baggie is for our receeptionist who is also super lactose intolerant.

Here’s the first thing I made:
